About the general malaise of translators
in translating three very different Greek words with
World:

John 3:16 is a perfect example of the doctrinal mayhem Christianity has created with one mistranslated, misused word to enslave the multitude of her congregations.

For which world did God offer His only begotten son?

Why 2889 kosmov kosmos of course, because if he had meant that he was offered for the whole of mankind, as in every human being, he would have used 3625 oikoumenh oikoumene the inhabited earth.

Instead he died for the kosmos/World of Israel the only apt and harmonious arrangement or constitution, order, government ever instituted for any group or tribe of humans by God.

For greater more focused detail, please see here

The NT uses of the word 3625 oikoumenh oikoumene, in context listed below, will clearly show its far broader meaning than the more narrowly focused Kosmos.

It is like the misuse of world in the end-time scenario question the disciples asked Jesus as recorded in Matthew 24:3.  Jesus did not question their use of 165 aiwn aion but ran with that word to simply indicated that an era, an epoch with an intimate connection to the temple was soon to end.

That was the epoch of Israel’s special relationship with Jehovah.  Although having already terminated at the death of their Messiah, the remaining evidence of that former glorious union, the temple, system of worship, way of life and all remaining vestiges still had to be removed to publicly demonstrate the finality of the end of that special relationship.

That was perfectly accomplished by the Romans in 70CE and was the beginning of the great tribulation that had afflicted Jehovah’s former wifely companion Israel ever since.  It is the greatest both in scope and duration as it continues down to this day and shall continue until the phase of Matthew 24:29-31 is completed and the heavenly government, also known as God's Kingdom, or rather when the 144000 kings and priests begin their 1000-year reign/rule.

Inserted the above line to separate reality from doctrinal conjecture based on the false inherited sin doctrine.  Everything hereunder refers to the world of Israel Jesus was neither a part of nor ought the anointed Israel of God.

In keeping with God's purpose and His overall theme of saving the seed of Abraham to fulfil the promises for them to be a blessing to al the families of the earth, kosmos invariably means the world of Israel - note 1 & 2 above, while the world of mankind i.e. the entire inhabited earth finds expression in an entirely different Greek word: Strong's 3625 oikoumene
For more detail please go here:

Items 3-8 above are largely interpretive as in how used and understood in the prevailing doctrinal mindset of Christianity's false inherited sin doctrine.

Here particularly from the printed version: Strong's Expanded Dictionary of Bible Words not entirely free from conjecture:

Kosmos is first a harmonious arrangement or order, then by extension, adornment or decoration, and came to denote the world, or the universe, as that which is divinely arranged. It came to mean anyone not of the ekklasia (1577). Kosmos, primarily "order, arrangement, ornament, adornment" is used to denote . . .

Which world to be rescued by their Messiah lamb Jesus?:

Joh 1:29  The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, "Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world <2889>!

Joh 3:16  "For God so loved the world <2889> that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

Joh 3:17  "For God did not send His Son into the world <2889> to condemn the world <2889>, but that the world <2889> through Him might be saved.

All of mankind, the entire world saved?  Salvation, a repurchasing and forgiveness was only ever promised to Israel who were condemned to extermination as a clearly distinguishable people under God their king, because they transgressed laws only they had.  So only this people Israel are involved here because they were the only group of humans with a divinely instituted apt and harmonious arrangement or constitution, order, government.

The end of forever?  Matthew 24:3: Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?  <165>?"

Because it is too expensive to print out every occurrence of  2889 kosmov kosmos  and 165 aiwn aion  at the end of this page, I have deposited a list of the 15 only occurrences of 3625 oikoumenh oikoumene  the whole inhabited earth, as in Mankind -ALL OF THEM!- in the New Testament for contextual purposes.

The following verse causes tummy aches for those who see mankind under transgression and not just Israel who were the only ones under Law and could therefore be the only ones to transgress it.

And he is a propitiatory sacrifice for our* sins, yet not for ours only but also for the whole world’s *. (1 John 2:2)

* For those John wrote to: 1 John 1:1-4 ¶  That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, concerning the Word of life––  2  the life was manifested, and we have seen, and bear witness, and declare to you that eternal life which was with the Father and was manifested to us––  3  that which we have seen and heard we declare to you, that you also may have fellowship with us; and truly our fellowship is with the Father and with His Son Jesus Christ.  4  And these things we write to you that your {NU–Text and M–Text read our.} joy may be full.

* It was he world of the people Israel (Strong's 2889 kosmos), to and for whom the Passover/Atonement Lamb Jesus had exclusively come.  In John 11:52 John reported High Priest Caiaphas referring to other scattered children of God who turned out to be from non-Israelite Gentile tribes, as indeed prophesied in Isaiah 56:8 The Lord GOD, who gathers the dispersed of Israel, declares, "Yet others I will gather to them, to those already gathered."  ‑See also John 10:16.

God's firstborn son Israel in the person of Jesus ‑ see Exodus 4:22;  Hosea 11:1;  Matthew 2:15;  John 11:50-52;  Matthew 15:24; Hebrews 1:6.

Multi-ethnic Israel, the seed of Abraham ‑see Galatians 3:28-29‑ will be instrumental in  blessing all the families that have ever and ever shall exist.  That seed of Abraham will comprise the small number making up the little flock (Luke 12:32) chosen out of all nations to be Kings and Priests in governance as the heavenly Kingdom of God –Exodus 19:3-6; 1 Peter 2:9. and all the Bible really.

Too much detail?  Well, there is even more detail on other pages J

Please Note:

Some of the above verses have been subjected to apostate editing, because there'll be no Armageddon on earth.  Satan and his cohort demons are the Kings of the earth, a matter clearly established by the Devil's own words quoted in Luke 4:5.  Their being rounded up, gathered and confined for the thousand years for God to deal with them after the end of His rest day by the angels constitutes Armageddon.

They're going to fight like mad, with some serious repercussions on earth through their effort to hide and camouflage themselves.
