Christ — meaning, definition
The word Christ has its origin in — why not let have a say:
In the Septuagint version of the Hebrew Bible, the word Christ was used to translate into Greek the Hebrew mashiach (messiah), meaning "anointed." Christós in classical Greek usage could mean covered in oil, or anointed, and is thus a literal translation of messiah.
On that basis, why was Jesus anointed or christened*?
* Christianity really lost it with the meaning of the word
First of all, we need to define the verb anoint. Here from the Googelator:
Humanity's operating manual library generally known as the Bible only uses the verb
anoint to define setting someone or something aside to serve a particular purpose
- here from the NKJV:
Ex 28:41 "So you shall put them on Aaron your brother and on his sons with him. You shall anoint them, consecrate them, and sanctify them, that they may minister lo Me as priests.
Ex 29:7 "And you shall take the anointing oil, pour it on his head, and anoint him.
Ex 29:36 "And you shall offer a bull every day as a sin offering for atonement. You shall cleanse the altar when you make atonement for it, and you shall anoint it to sanctify it.
Ex 30:26 "With if you shall anoint the tabernacle of meeting and the ark of the Testimony;
Ex30:30 "And you shall anoint Aaron and his sons, and consecrate them, that they minister to Me as priests.
Ex40:9 "And you shall take the anointing oil, and anoint the tabernacle and all that is in it; and you shall hallow it and all its utensils, and it shall be holy.
Ex 40:10 "You shall anoint the altar of the burnt offering and all its utensils, and consecrate the altar. The altar shall be most holy.
Ex40:11 "And you shall anoint the laver and its base, and consecrate it.
Ex40:13 "You shall put the holy garments on Aaron, and anoint him and consecrate him, that he may minister lo Me as priest.
Ex 40:15 "You shall anoint them, as you anointed their father, that they may minister to Me as priests; for their anointing shall surely be an everlasting priesthood throughout their generations. "
OK now. Again, why was Jesus anointed?
Jesus had the genetic, legal and chronological right to be King over Israel through his line of descent from King David through Joseph his stepfather and directly via Mary his mother, and in keeping with the purpose of Jehovah, the great time-keeper.
The Davidic throne, vacant since Israel's demolition by Babylon's mighty army under Nebuchadnezzar, was prophesied to be temporarily occupied just once more by one of God's choosing. Here by way of Ezekiel 21:24-27 where Jehovah addresses Zedekiah, Israel's last king:
24 Therefore thus with the Lord Jehovah: Because ye have made your iniquity to be remembered, in that your transgressions are uncovered, so that in all your doings your sins do appear; because that ye are come to remembrance, ye shall be taken with the hand.
25 And thou, O deadly wounded wicked one, the prince of Israel, whose day is come, in the time of the iniquity of the end,
26 thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Remove the mitre, and take off the crown; this shall be no more the same; exalt that which is low, and abase that which is high.
27 I will overturn, overturn, overturn it: this also shall be no more, until he come whose right it is; and I will give it him.
Jesus was the last in the line of Davidic Kings to rule Israel.
To really understand this, one must recall that changing the nature of Israel's administration from tribal, under God's guiding hand, to Kingdom, was never Jehovah's purpose in the first place, but resulted solely in response to the people's demands, who, like little children, desired to have a king along with all the fancy trimmings, like the other tribes. So, after warning them of the extra burdens upon the people that would entail, He resigned himself to their wishes and constituted His people into a temporary kingdom integrated into His purpose.
The heavenly only-begotten of God could never lie claim to David's throne and rule Israel simply because he was not of the same kind, but just an Angel, though Arch he be.
When Jesus died by proxy in place of the heavenly only-hegotten of God actually offered as per John 3:16, he bequeathed everything he had been and become to that heavenly only-begotten who was simultaneously elevated to full divine sonship as a reward for willingly submitting to be offered as a sacrifice to save the beloved World (Strong’s 2889) of Jehovah's firstborn son Israel.
One of the principal bequests the heavenly post-messianic son of God had inherited from Jesus, is the office and name Christ.
Why does that label remain attached to the divine son of God?
Because the anointing and the office of King over the Israel of God yet in the flesh, continued with the heavenly only-begotten who became the forerunner as the first of the 143999 still to be anointed as sons of Jehovah's divine family of Gods and pass through the curtain of Jesus' flesh/life into God's most holy heavenly presence.
That was NOT Jesus, who simply created the right conditions for this to occur through his death.
In the heavenly administration of a thousand years any distinction between king and subjects will vanish forever, as indeed shall all tribal identities, since the entire family of divine sons of Jehovah enjoy an equal status of literal systemic Godlikeness.
These matters may be of little interest to you now, but to be well informed will make the transition to that soon to be implemented global government by Jehovah a might easier, especially when neither religion nor any other enslavement to human rule will ever rise its ugly head again.
