In defence of the sidelined God Jehovah, Creator of the Universe and Father of Humanity
The Redemption of Israel
Actually, there were two redemptions:
1. A repurchase from Babylon with the payment consisting of an assortment of territories:
1 But now thus saith Jehovah that created thee, O Jacob, and he that formed thee, O Israel: Fear not, for I have redeemed thee; I have called thee by thy name, thou art mine.
2 When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned, neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.
3 For I am Jehovah thy God, the Holy One of Israel, thy Saviour; I have given Egypt as thy ransom, Ethiopia and Seba in thy stead.
4 Since thou hast been precious in my sight, and honorable, and I have loved thee; therefore will I give men in thy stead, and peoples instead of thy life.
5 Fear not; for I am with thee: I will bring thy seed from the east, and gather thee from the west;
6 I will say to the north, Give up; and to the south, Keep not back; bring my sons from far, and my daughters from the end of the earth;
7 every one that is called by my name, and whom I have created for my glory, whom I have formed, yea, whom I have made. -Isaiah 43:1-7
“Do not be afraid, you worm Jacob, you men of Israel. I myself will help you,” is
the utterance of Jehovah, even your Repurchaser*, the Holy One of Israel. (Isaiah
* Redeemer as per the Authorized King James Version and most other translations
- doesn't everyone just love that word redeem?
Everything about the world and age* of Jehovah's people Israel has its heavenly antitype, which was the pattern. Geology, Structures, Administration find their virtual reality in heaven. From temple to flocks, from pasture to city life from geological names to a life of happy satisfaction, all are types that mirror the heavenly realities for those privileged to live and work as part of God's heavenly family.

Israel's return from Babylonian exile was but a temporary stay of execution under the tutorage of the Law until Messiah who died for them and they in him:
2. A repurchase from the confinement of the law and their transgressions of it which held them to ransom, here from an essay written much earlier, still needing perhaps some fine tuning due to later discoveries:
The Purchase repurchased!
To an English speaking person the meaning of the word purchase, noun or verb, should pose no comprehension problems.
Generally it is understood that this involves an already existing item that one is desirous to obtain by purchase.
God arranged for something already existing to be purchased.
What exactly did God purchase? What did the Apostle Paul say?:
(Acts 20:28) Pay attention to yourselves and to all the flock, among which the holy spirit has appointed you overseers, to shepherd the congregation of God, which he purchased with the blood of his own [Son].
So, the Congregation of God was purchased by God.
When did that happen?
Upon the purchase price being paid: The death of the sheep Jesus.
Which congregation existed up to the point of purchase?
(1 Chronicles 28:8) And now, before the eyes of all Israel, Jehovah’s congregation.
So it was Israel that was purchased.
Why did it have to be purchased?
This Congregation of God had sold itself into sin against the Law and had therefore to be redeemed or repurchased.
(Galatians 4:4-5) But when the full limit of the time arrived, God sent forth his Son, who came to be out of a woman and who came to be under law, 5 that he might release by purchase those under law, that we, in turn, might receive the adoption as sons.
So, the congregation of Israel was what was purchased with the blood of his own son and thus became again the property of Jehovah.
As a result of this purchase, Israel, the congregation of God, also became the property of the Christ and were now in a position to become Christ's brothers at their adoption as sons of God when they are born again at their resurrection.
Note these wonderful words of profound spiritual depth penned by the Apostle Paul under inspiration from the owner of the Congregation of Israel, Jehovah, to the Colossian sons of Israel included in the we, us and our:
(Colossians 1:13-14) He delivered us from the authority of the darkness and transferred us into the kingdom of the Son of his love, 14 by means of whom we have our release by ransom, the forgiveness of our sins.. . .
Forgiveness of our sins?
Because only they had a law and it was exclusively covenanted between Jehovah and His congregation Israel.
(Galatians 3:13) 13 Christ by purchase released M us from the curse of the Law by becoming a curse instead of us, because it is written: “Accursed is every man hanged upon a stake.”. . . Marginals (Matthew 26:28) (Titus 2:14) (Hebrews 9:15).
The nation of Israel, now free from the debt of sin against their Law, was therefore in a position to be entrusted to and become the property of the Christ, who, as the one who had the legal right in David's royal line of descent, assumed rulership over that redeemed nation of Israel, as represented by a small remnant, which, contrary to the expectations of Jesus' early disciples, was to have its final and intended destiny in heaven.
Since he owned it, the Congregation of repurchased Israel could be built on the Christ.
(Matthew 16:18) 18 Also, I say to you, you are Peter, and on this rock-mass I will build my congregation. . .
The above purchase is in actual fact a Re-Purchase! A repurchase of what?
Well, just as one cannot re-paint something that had never been painted before, or
re-issue something that had never been issued before, so it is with repurchase.
Jehovah can only repurchase something that had previously been purchased.
What was that? Israel! How was it purchased before?
The only thing that saved the individual firstborn of Israel was the Passover Lamb and their obedience to all the attached requirements. Since all firstborn in the land of Egypt were meant to die, Israel's firstborn belonged to Jehovah, who thus paid for them with the death of all of Egypt's firstborn.
(Numbers 3:13) 13 For every firstborn is mine. In the day that I struck every firstborn in the land of Egypt I sanctified to myself every firstborn in Israel from man to beast. They should become mine. I am Jehovah.. . .
So Jehovah now owned Israel because he had bought or purchased it.
Later Jehovah lost Israel when they became captive to sins against the Law of servitude given through Moses. Israel was thus held to ransom, sold under sin, taken into custody and imprisoned by the law that was meant to lead them as a free people:
(Romans 7:23) but I behold in my members another law warring against the law of my mind and leading me captive to sin’s law that is in my members.
(Romans 7:14) For we know that the Law is spiritual; but I am fleshly, sold under sin.
(Romans 8:2-4) For the law of that spirit which gives life in union with Christ
Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and of death. 3 For, there being an incapability
on the part of the Law [of sin and death], while it was weak through the flesh, God,
by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and concerning sin, condemned
sin in the flesh,
4 that the righteous requirement of the Law might be fulfilled in us who walk, not in accord with the flesh, but in accord with the spirit.
Paul's sold under sin in Romans 7:14 is with reference to the Law* and has nothing
to do with Adam's sin, as is his later reference to the law of sin and death in Romans
8:2, obvious from the fulfillment of that law in verse 4 —compare Matthew 5:17).
* 1 Corinthians 15:56: 56 The sting of death is sin; and the power of sin is the law: and
not some in-dwelling, evil, genetically predisposed compulsion to sin as a legacy from Adam
So Israel had to be Re-Purchased. Jehovah did that with the lamb.
The price thus paid was to free Israel from the Custodial Law of servitude* that held them to ransom through their disobedience the attendant death penalty as a Nation.
*22 For it is written that Abraham had two sons, one by the bondwoman and one by the free woman. 23 But the son by the bondwoman was born according to the flesh, and the son by the free woman through the promise. 24 This is allegorically speaking: for these women are two covenants, one proceeding from Mount Sinai bearing children who are to be slaves; she is Hagar. 25 Now this Hagar is Mount Sinai in Arabia, and corresponds to the present Jerusalem, for she is in slavery with her children. 26 But the Jerusalem above is free; she is our mother.
This repurchased Nation of Israel, the Congregation of God, the Israel of God, Jehovah's special people, property, possession and inheritance, now free from the encumbrances of flesh and the Law of sin and death mediated through Moses, will finally see the fulfillment of the promises as they stake their claim in their promised ‘land’ in heaven as the Kingdom of the Heavens:
(Revelation 5:9-10) . . .because you were slaughtered and with your blood you bought
persons for God out of every tribe and tongue and people and nation,
10 and you made them to be a kingdom and priests to our God, and they are to rule as kings over the earth.”
(Revelation 14:3-4) . . .no one was able to master that song but the hundred and forty-four thousand, who have been bought from the earth. 4 These are the ones that did not defile themselves with women; in fact, they are virgins. These are the ones that keep following the Lamb no matter where he goes. These were bought from among mankind as firstfruits to God and to the Lamb,
Yes, although collectively repurchased as a nation by the ransom for their ultimate
and God-intended destiny in Heaven, its members still had to be bought (Gr. agorazo;
redeemed KJV); individually from the earth, out of every tribe and tongue and nation
as a result of and in response to Jesus' specific command at Matthew 28:19-20 to:
“Go therefore and make disciples of people of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the holy spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all the things I have commanded you. And, look! I am with you all the days until the conclusion of the system of things.” (Gr. Aion)
Is not the Christ frequently spoken of as the Savior in the bible?
Yes he certainly is, but only after Jesus the sheep had been offered in sacrifice by the mediator, the heavenly Christ, who then offered that sacrifice directly to God in the Most Holy of the Heavens: Jehovah′s personal presence.
The sheep Jesus was provided by Jehovah to die for and instead of the nation of Israel. As a nation they were now collectively freed from their sins against the Law and in a position to inherit the promises of a Kingdom of Priests and a Holy Nation, a Royal Priesthood as the Kingdom of the Heavens.
Individually, however, everyone making up that forgiven nation of Israel, made up of an initially small remnant of repentant fleshly Israelites and joined later by Gentiles, still needed to repent of their sins against the law they all had inherited along with the promises.
It is for that reason and only after the sacrifice of the sheep Jesus had been accepted by Jehovah, that the Christ became their individual savior, and was in that sense still to come for them individually:
(Acts 3:12, 19-21) . . 12 “Men of Israel, why are you wondering over this. .
19 Repent, therefore, and turn around so as to get your sins blotted out, that seasons of refreshing may come from the person of Jehovah 20 and that he may send forth the Christ appointed for you, Jesus, 21 whom heaven, indeed, must hold within itself until the times of restoration of all things of which God spoke through the mouth of his holy prophets of old time.
It was after the sacrificial death of Jesus and in consequence of Jehovah exalting
—not Jesus who forfeited his life as a proxy for God's only-begotten heavenly son— offered to save Israel to His right hand, that the following applies:
(Acts 5:30-31) . . .. 31 God exalted this one as Chief Agent and Savior to his right hand, to give repentance to Israel and forgiveness of sins.
Yes, the giving of repentance to individual Israelites, whatever their ethnic origins,
was yet future even after Jesus′ death for and instead of the Nation of Israel. They
still had to individually put faith in their ransoming and produce appropriate works
of repentance in keeping with that faith, in order to become and remain an implanted
branch and a sharer of the olive’s root of fatness,
. . . (Romans 11:17).
In this manner then, does Jesus become and continues to be the savior of the full number of the collective body of the Congregation of Israel, as they save themselves individually in consequence of their continuing faith in Jesus' saving death.
(Ephesians 5:23) 23 because a husband is head of his wife as the Christ also is head of the congregation, he being a savior of [this] body.
The survival of individual members of the congregation of God, the Israel of God, was not guaranteed by the sacrifice of the lamb Jesus. Only the survival of them collectively as the Israel of God was assured by that sacrifice.
Individually though, they still had to wait for approval from Jehovah through their appointed Judge, their Christ and King, who was judging them according to the evidence of their repentance that their course of life demonstrated.
(Philippians 3:19-20) . . .. 20 As for us, our citizenship exists in the heavens, from which place also we are eagerly waiting for a savior, the Lord Jesus Christ,
Having already applied for citizenship in the Heavenly Kingdom while on earth, they still need to wait for their application to be approved by their savior Christ.
Jehovah is the Savior and Repurchaser of His people Israel when he offered the lamb in exchange. The restored* Christ is the Savior of the individuals making up that saved nation.
* Like Isaac was restored to ultimately cause the birth of the Seed of Abraham Israel
after the saving sheep had died instead.
