In defence of the sidelined God Jehovah, Creator of the Universe and Father of Humanity
Who is the prodigal son of Luke 15:11-32?
They are the lost sheep of the firstborn son of God Israel of the Exodus (Exodus 4:22) under the Law, the lost sheep of Isaiah 53, redeemed in Jesus and born again as a younger son, as it were, the Israel of God under the new covenant, to become even more profoundly prodigal and lost.
The antitypical father of the two sons is Jehovah* who, being immortal, had nothing
to bequeath to His sons other than the promises He had already made to Abraham. The
older son stayed dutifully at home working in the father's household without joyful
anticipation of his future inheritance. Their Law was just a burden they were unwilling
* the English version of God's inimitable name a la KJV and many other translations.
In the fulfilment, the younger son, born-again Israel of God under the new testament, impatiently yearning for the promised inheritance, demanded the glory of becoming immortal sons God prematurely before they qualified and the father was ready to give it.
Having the freedom to seek their own glory, even as have all humans by default, Israel soon became one with secular rulers and tribal gods in an adulterous relationship in the manner of the prostitute she was while married to their husband Jehovah.
The N.T. Israel of God and Bride of Christ thus became a collective harlot exceedingly more so than she had been under the O.T.
The question now is:
In the antitype, how and when does the younger son return to the father?
The answer is:
The when: As soon as the Great Tribulation , as an expression of Jehovah's continuing
wrath and vengeance upon Israel, beginning with the Roman onslaught in 70, ends.
The how: The moment God's born again firstborn* son finally and in the fullest and most complete sense comes home to be ultimately seated in heavenly Governance with Christ after being gathered simultaneously from death and earth at his command:
29 "Immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken. 30 "Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. 31 "And He will send His angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they will gather together His elect* from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.
* Saints or Holy Ones
* Funny how everybody completely misses the obvious:
The younger son is actually the born-again firstborn older son, who got themselves into an even bigger mess before coming Home to the father
That wasn't all that difficult now, was it?
