————— The Olive Tree ———–––

Jeremiah 11:16-17

16 ‘An olive, green, fair, of goodly fruit,’ Hath Jehovah called thy name, At the noise of a great tumult He hath kindled fire against it, And broken have been its thin branches.  17 And Jehovah of Hosts, who is planting thee, Hath spoken evil concerning thee, For the evil of the house of Israel, and of the house of Judah, That they have done to themselves, To provoke Me to anger, to make perfume to Baal.  -Young's Literal Translation 1862

The olive tree Israel had a great future built into it, alas it seemed ruined, not producing the desired fruit.  It was however never rejected and chopped down.

Jehovah's solution superbly addressed the problem by just replacing many of its branches:
Romans 11:1-5;

1 I ask, then, has God rejected his own people, the nation of Israel? Of course not! I myself am an Israelite, a descendant of Abraham and a member of the tribe of Benjamin.  2 No, God has not rejected his own people, whom he chose from the very beginning. Do you realize what the Scriptures say about this? Elijah the prophet complained to God about the people of Israel and said, 3 “LORD, they have killed your prophets and torn down your altars. I am the only one left, and now they are trying to kill me, too.”  4 And do you remember God’s reply? He said, “No, I have 7,000 others who have never bowed down to Baal!”  5 It is the same today, for a few of the people of Israel have remained faithful because of God’s grace––his undeserved kindness in choosing them.  New Living Translation 1986

Romans 11:17

17  But if some of the branches were broken off, and thou, being a wild olive, wast grafted in among them, and didst become partaker with them of the root of the fatness of the olive tree;  ASV 1901

26  And in this way all Israel will be saved, as it is written, “The Deliverer will come from Zion, he will banish ungodliness from Jacob”; ESV 2001/7

The Olive tree Israel continued unabated and kept moving inexorably on to its final intended place in the heavenly realm, according to Jehovah's grand purpose.

Through a small remnant of faithful Jews who responded positively to their Messiah, the same olive tree Israel continued onward to their heavenly destiny and was joined by other sheep who follow the lamb to wherever he was going right into the heavenly realm to make up one single flock:

John 10:16:

16 “And I have other sheep [Gentiles], which are not of this fold; [where Jesus currently was – among direct genetic descendants of Jacob] those also I must bring, and they will listen to my voice, and they will become one flock [real fleshly descendants of Jacob through adoption into one integrated people Israel], one shepherd.

Behold Ephesians 2:1-6, 11-14:

1  Also you [Ephesian Jews and Gentiles]—being dead in the trespasses and the sins,
2  in which once ye did walk according to the age of this world
[of Israel], according to the ruler of the authority of the air, of the spirit that is now working in the sons of disobedience, [Israel under the Law]

3  among whom also we [Paul and his Jewish and Gentile brothers] all did walk once in the desires of our flesh, doing the wishes of the flesh and of the thoughts, and were by nature children of wrath [because of the sins against the Mosaic Law]—as also the others, 4 ¶  and God, being rich in kindness, because of His great love with which He loved us, 5 even being dead in the trespasses [against the Law, as Paul said in
Romans 4:15 and Romans 5:13 that where there is no law, neither are there trespasses]
, did make us to live together with the Christ, (by grace ye are having been saved,) 6  and did raise us up together, and did seat us together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus,

11 ¶  Wherefore, remember, that ye were once the nations in the flesh, who are called Uncircumcision by that called Circumcision in the flesh made by hands, 12 that ye were at that time apart from Christ, having been alienated from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers to the covenants of the promise, having no hope, and without God, in the world; 13 and now, in Christ Jesus, ye being once afar off became nigh in the blood of the Christ, 14 for he is our peace, who did make both one, and the middle wall of the enclosure did break down, -Young's Literal Translation 1862

Note: Square bracket insertions entirely mine.

Need to remember that all Jews, as in all who were under the Law, had become God's enemies* and were now no different from those of the Gentile uncircumcision, who had inherited that enmity along with the Abrahamic promises after becoming disciples.  Jews were now as much part of those gentile nations they usually looked down upon, because of their own alienation from God.  Adoption into the Family of God is total and, for those having faith irrespective of their ethnicity, includes having Abraham, Isaac and Jacob as forefathers.

* Romans 5:10  and then read all of Isaiah 59 to understand that it was Israel under the Law who were God's enemies, not mankind.

Same Olive Tree.  Same Israel.  Different complement.

However, to remain virginal and to have sufficient oil in their lamps to last long enough for them to join the bridegroom and, as the virginal Bride of Christ, consummate their marriage to him in the heavenly realm, they must remain attached to the olive tree to continue to draw oil from its root of fatness who is Jehovah, the source of their anointing Holy Spirit.

The Two Olive Trees

Ever since the Bride of Christ apostatised during the first couple of post messianic centuries, Christendom's scholars have raked their brains to identify the character, activities and timing of the two witnesses and the attendant olive trees of Revelation 11.

The two olive trees of Revelation 11, are the same Israel, but under the two covenants/testaments.

This two witnesses remnant of that Israel Bride of Christ are made up of an unknown indefinite number scattered throughout Christendom without a unifying denominational identity, yet united demonstrably by the faith of Abraham, still alive during the time depicted in Revelation 11.

Only Jehovah and their heavenly bridegroom Christ know who they are.

To determine the exact scenario of their activities in Revelation 11 is yet for the future to understand.  There are certainly no two separate individuals involved here.

They are group identities as in Isaiah 43:10 where Israel is identified in plural as My Witnesses and in the singular as My Servant whom Jehovah chose.

Similarly with the seven lamp-stands of Revelation 2:20 which picture congregations, where seven, in its customary scriptural role of expressing a singularity or a cycle of completeness, is symbolic of the one single congregation or assembly of the forgiven and ransomed flock of Israel under its new post-messianic testamental covenant configuration as the multi-ethnic and multi-gender Seed of Abraham finally in a position to become a blessing to all the families of the earth past, present and future. –Genesis 22:18; Galatians 3:28-29
