A bit more about the Great Tribulation and Washed/White Robes Anchor

While Jesus was in the fold of the sheep Israel, which was the very fold he was referring to in John 10:16, he answered the disciples' questions about his return, the destruction of the temple and the end of their world of worship and ritual by telling them about one great tribulation that was to afflict Israel,  he did not indicate anywhere that, after its beginning in 70 CE, it was to pause for 2000 years or so and then resume in the time of the end or that there would be an entirely separate tribulation in the time of the end.  Neither did he say that the great tribulation would extend to mankind rather than remain Israel specific.

(Matthew 24:21-22) 21 for then there will be great tribulation <2347 noun> such as has not occurred since the world’s* beginning until now, no, nor will occur again. 22 In fact, unless those days were cut short, no flesh would be saved; but on account of the chosen ones those days will be cut short.. . .

* Israel's world founded at Sinai - Strong's 2889 kosmos -Government, decoration- same world as in John 3:16.

Rather, he said that it was to continue on until his manifestation to all mankind, at the very beginning of the establishment of his heavenly Kingdom.  Immediately means what it says,
no doctrinal wriggles required:

(Matthew 24:29-31) 29 “Immediately after the tribulation <2347 noun> of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light, and the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken. 30 And then the sign of the Son of man will appear in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will beat themselves in lamentation, and they will see the Son of man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. 31 And he will send forth his angels with a great trumpet sound, and they will gather his chosen ones together from the four winds, from one extremity of the heavens to their other extremity.

(Revelation 1:7) 7 Look! He is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see him, and those who pierced him; and all the tribes of the earth will beat themselves in grief because of him.. . .

All the signs and Bible chronology indicate, the beginning of God's Heavenly Kingdom had to wait until the selection of the full number making up that Kingdom had been completed through the preaching of the Good News of the Kingdom ‑Matt 24:14.  It is only then that the angels gather his dead or still alive chosen ones into the heavenly realm.

From Strong's Bible Dictionary:

2347 yliqiv thlipsis thlip'-sis

from 2346; (which is a verb) TDNT-3:139,334; noun feminine

AV-tribulation 21, affliction 17, trouble 3, anguish 1, persecution 1, burdened 1, to be afflicted + 1519 1; 45

1) a pressing, pressing together, pressure

2) metaph. oppression, affliction, tribulation, distress, straits

The tribulation continued on . . . and on . . . and on . . . until . . .

(2 Thessalonians 1:6-10) 6 This takes into account that it is righteous on God’s part to repay tribulation <2347 noun> to those who make tribulation <2346 verb> for you, 7 but, to you who suffer tribulation <2346 verb>, relief along with us at the revelation of the Lord Jesus from heaven with his powerful angels 8 in a flaming fire, as he brings vengeance upon those who do not know God and those who do not obey the good news about our Lord Jesus. 9 These very ones will undergo the judicial punishment of everlasting destruction from before the Lord and from the glory of his strength, 10 at the time he comes to be glorified in connection with his holy ones and to be regarded in that day with wonder in connection with all those who exercised faith, because the witness we gave met with faith among you.

See the Great Crowd ascending into the heavenly Jerusalem and receive eternal life:

(Revelation 7:13-17) 13 And in response one of the elders said to me: “These who are dressed in the white robes, who are they and where did they come from?” 14 So right away I said to him: “My lord, you are the one that knows.” And he said to me: “These are the ones that come out of the great tribulation <2347 noun>, and they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. 15 That is why they are before the throne of God; and they are rendering him sacred service day and night in his temple; and the One seated on the throne will spread his tent over them. 16 They will hunger no more nor thirst anymore, neither will the sun beat down upon them nor any scorching heat, 17 because the Lamb, who is in the midst of the throne, will shepherd them, and will guide them to fountains of waters of life. And God will wipe out every tear from their eyes.”. . .

(Revelation 22:14) 14 Happy are those who wash their robes, that the authority [to go] to the trees of life may be theirs and that they may gain entrance into the city by its gates. . .

Humans will never attain to that eternal life pictured by the Tree of Life .  They will however, have the opportunity to live forever on earth, subject to compliance and the eating of food.

In Revelation 22:14 a considerable number of translations incl. the KJV say: do his commandments with the majority incl. Jerome's Douay having wash their robes.

What a mess!  Since the commandments were completely annulled at Jesus' death, wash their robes must be the right one, with the other version doctored by those overzealously clinging to the Mosaic Law in order to use that Law as a means of judging and give themselves power over others.

Behold: Rev 22:18-19:  I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone adds anything to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book.  19  And if anyone takes words away from this book of prophecy, God will take away from him his share in the tree of life and in the holy city, which are described in this book. NIV

They will be judged.

About those featured in Revelation 22:14  who come out of the Great Tribulation and have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the lamb.

All Israel was guilty of breaking the Law.  It was endemic.    Yet speaking to the transgressor Israel, this is what Jehovah said: 18 “Come, now, you people, and let us set matters straight between us,” says Jehovah. “Though the sins of you people should prove to be as scarlet, they will be made white just like snow; though they should be red like crimson cloth, they will become even like wool. (Isaiah 1:18)

How was that to occur?   They all had to accept the value of Jesus' redemptive blood he had shed for them.

To demonstrate their individual acceptance of Jehovah's saving means through the Lamb Christ Jesus, they needed to live their lives in accord with Jehovah's purpose, continuing to wash their outer garments or robes in the Blood of the lamb.

Jehovah’s Witnesses deem these to be the other sheep of John 10:16 allegedly destined for life on earth, whereas both: the Other Sheep and the Great Crowd are of the same anointed little flock of discipled saints destined to receive and be the Kingdom of Heaven temporarily segmented only by time and origin.

The other sheep are those Gentiles chosen by Jehovah to complement the anointed Israelites who have likewise washed their robes.  The Great Crowd are the multiethnic anointed yet in the flesh coming out of Israel’s Great Tribulation at the birth of the kingdom, welcoming the arrival of their King in Power and Glory while still busily washing their robes.

Jehovah’s Witnesses deem these to be the same as the other sheep of John 10:16 whom they consider to be all the faithful of their denomination not of the anointed, but blessed to dwell on earth forever, under the heavenly Kingdom

Alas, the other sheep are simply the Gentile complement of anointed Israel who likewise needed to wash their robes, with the great crowd comprising those remaining anointed still on earth at the Kingdom’s birth.

All white garmented individuals are those of the 144000 who ultimately qualify to rule as kings with the Christ for the 1000 years:

(Revelation 3:4-5) 4 “‘Nevertheless, you do have a few names in Sar´dis that did not defile their outer garments, and they shall walk with me in white ones, because they are worthy. 5 He that conquers will thus be arrayed in white outer garments; <2440> .

(Revelation 3:18) 18 I advise you to buy from me gold refined by fire that you may become rich, and white outer garments <2440> that you may become dressed and that the shame of your nakedness may not become manifested,. . .

(Revelation 4:4) 4 And round about the throne [there are] twenty-four thrones, and upon these thrones [I saw] seated twenty-four elders dressed in white outer garments  <2440>, and upon their heads golden crowns.. . .

(Revelation 6:11) 11 And a white robe <4749> was given to each of them; and they were told to rest a little while longer, until the number was filled also of their fellow slaves and their brothers who were about to be killed as they also had been. . .

(Revelation 7:9-10) 9 After these things I saw, and, look! a great crowd, which no man was able to number, out of all nations and tribes and peoples and tongues, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, dressed in white robes <4749>; and there were palm branches in their hands. 10 And they keep on crying with a loud voice, saying: “Salvation [we owe] to our God, who is seated on the throne, and to the Lamb.. . .

(Revelation 7:13-14) 13 And in response one of the elders said to me: “These who are dressed in the white robes <4749>, who are they and where did they come from?” 14 So right away I said to him: “My lord, you are the one that knows.” And he said to me: “These are the ones that come out of the great tribulation, and they have washed their robes <4749> and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.

The white attire identifies them up-front to be among those possessing the token of the holy spirit and finally chosen from among those who were originally called to be the Jehovah's heavenly Kingdom under the Christ.

Revelation 22:14) 14 Happy are those who wash their robes,* that the authority [to go] to the trees of life may be theirs and that they may gain entrance into the city by its gates Xref. .

* no number here, since the King James Version renders this verse:  Blessed [are] they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.

Xref (Revelation 21:11-14) . . .. 12 It had a great and lofty wall and had twelve gates, and at the gates twelve angels, and names were inscribed which are those of the twelve tribes of the sons of Israel. 13 On the east were three gates, and on the north three gates, and on the south three gates, and on the west three gates. 14 The wall of the city also had twelve foundation stones, and on them the twelve names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.

The great crowd out of all nations and tribes and peoples which no man was able to number* from Revelation 7:9 are those of anointed Israel still on earth at the commencement of the Kingdom's birth.  They cannot be numbered because no one, not even God, can tell who will remain faithful to the end and how many will die before in order to rest a little while longer to join those who will be changed in the twinkling of an eye for them altogether to meet their Lord in the ‘air’ at the beginning of their 1000-year rule as the Kingdom of the Heavens.

* does not mean too numerous to count.  It is just a metaphor to express an unknown quantity like sand and stars.  Did Jehovah lie when He promised Israel impossible-to-achieve star- or sand-like numbers*?

No!  Because He did not know how many would come out of Jacob's loins and, even more importantly, how many would finally qualify.

* A study by Yale astronomer Pieter van Dokkum just took the estimated number of stars in the universe—100,000,000,000,000,000,000,000, or 100 sextillion—and tripled it. And you thought nothing good ever happens on Wednesdays.

Note:  King James Version, American Standard Bible and some others do not have wash their robes in Rev 22:14, whereas the New World Translation, along with those shown below, do.

Here first from the NIV and the Douay Rheims Versions:

14  "Blessed are those who wash their robes, that they may have the right to the tree of life and may go through the gates into the city.  NIV

14  Blessed are they that wash their robes in the blood of the Lamb: that they may have a right to the tree of life and may enter in by the gates into the city.  Douay Rheims

and the following translations:

ASV 1901,   BBE,   DARBY 1888,   DOUAY RHEIMS 1899,   ERV 1852,   ESV,   GWV,   HSCB,   MESSAGE,   NAS,   NIV, NLT,  NOYES 1869,  NRSV,  PHILIPS,   ROTHERHAM 1902,   RVSV,   WEYMOUTH 1912,    WILLIAMS 1936.

Most translations, read Tree of Life not Trees of Life as the NWT has it.

Christendom's Scholars have wrestled with the different rendering.  Since they

1. neither understand that Jesus died exclusively for Israel nor

2. that the commandments are no longer valid for Christians.

They remain in a quandary, as do JWs relative to item 1.

and where do those who come out of the Great Tribulation finish up?: Heaven!
