Originally part of my writing to the leading elders of Jehovah’s Witnesses with whom I was still associated at the time, but here edited to reflect my growing appreciation of the greater, more profound depth of Jehovah’s sacrificial arrangement involving Israel, Jesus Christ, Michael and Christians.

The power of Jesus' Sacrifice.

In my more recent reading and studying of the Bible and our (JW) literature, I have made the, to me at least, startling discovery that we (or should I say you, because I do not any longer) profoundly undervalue the depth of Jesus' Sacrifice; what it really accomplished.

I do not wish to engage in a long and tiring presentation of proof texts and other support verses. you  (the JW Overseers) need to humbly and prayerfully engage yourself in research.  If you don't seem to have the time for this due to organizational preoccupations, make the time.  Buy out the opportune time for thoroughly examining the Scriptures to enable you to comfort, encourage and enlighten the brotherhood with the healing balm of God's word more accurately.

I shall attach some pages with nothing but verses to this note, which ought to speak for themselves, as all of God's word really does.  Many of these you will find here and there in other separate, though always related, subject notes, as it became necessary.

What the Sacrifice accomplished:

Principally it was for freeing nation of Israel from the the death sentence they incurred through their failure to obey The Law.

Secondary, but not least, to give Adam's progeny the same opportunity he originally had to individually decide for themselves to listen to God’s advice and continue living indefinitely or not. The seed of Abraham i. e. anointed Israel,  made up of Israelites and Gentiles, has been prepared to facilitate that.  All Families of the Earth dead and alive will in time be able to bless themselves or be blessed by that Seed of Abraham (Genesis 22:18).

The ultimate value and power of  sacrifice of the son of man Jesus the Nazarene, Israel’s second Passover and final Atonement lamb, was that he saved the life of God's first creation, His only begotten son/god, who was offered in sacrifice to take the place of the delinquent, adulterous nation of Israel; so great was Jehovah’s love for His firstborn son Israel —
—Exodus 4:22.

First though some basic principles and fundamental concepts that need to be in place and understood:

  1. On the basis that post-sacrifice-Israel also includes members from all nations, all the plural personal pronouns the Epistle writers used: we, us, you, our, ours need to be understood to apply exclusively to the Israel so beautifully discussed  and explained by the Apostle Paul in Romans chapter 11 with a focus on verse 26.
  1. Salvation comes to multiethnic Israel when all 144000 kings have taken their heavenly places beside their King and Redeemer/Ransomer, in fulfillment of the covenant for a Kingdom of Priests and a Holy Nation of Exodus 19:5-8.
  2. All Israel inherited the kingdom Promises, but along with it also the debt of disobedience to The Law.

There are reams of scriptures with torrid tales of Israel's stubborn disobedience and failure to live up to its contractual or covenant obligations.  Israel's debt to Jehovah was of no insignificant magnitude.

Hence this debt had to be paid to free Israel for their purposed heavenly role.

New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures—With References—Revised 1984—

unless otherwise stated.  -marginals indicate cross-references.

The reason I use this translation is to demonstrate that the translators, whether recognized as translation-worthies or not by Christianity in general, understood the fundamental truths of Jehovah’s purpose at that time, as borne out by their almost intuitive cross-referencing marginals.  Though they may not have been conscious of it, but they appear to have sensed the their Lord had died for and in place of Israel.

(Galatians 4:4-5) 4 But when the full limit of the time arrived, God sent forth his Son, who came to be out of a woman and who came to be under law, 5 that he might release by purchase those under law, that we, in turn, might receive the adoption as sons.

4  But when the fullness of the time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law,  5  to redeem those who were under the law, that we might receive the adoption as sons. -Galatians 4:4-5 NKJV

(Galatians 3:13) 13 Christ by purchase released us from the curse of the Law by becoming a curse instead of us, because it is written: “Accursed is every man hanged upon a stake.”

13  Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, "Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree"),  -Galatians 3:13 NKJV

(Hebrews 9:15) 15 So that is why he is a mediator of a new covenant, in order that, because a death has occurred for [their] release by ransom from the transgressions under the former covenant, the ones who have been called might receive the promise of the everlasting inheritance.

¶  And for this cause he is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, they who are called may receive the promise of eternal inheritance.   -Hebrews 9:15 Webster 1833 -it better reflects the original Greek

21  For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.  -2 Corinthians 5:21  Webster 1833

(2 Corinthians 5:21) 21 The one who did not know sin he made to be sinM for us, that we might become God’s righteousness by means of him.

Marginals Rbi8 2 Corinthians 5:21

M (Leviticus 16:21) And Aaron must lay both his hands upon the head of the live goat and confess over it all the errors of the sons of Israel and all their revolts in all their sins, and he must put them upon the head of the goat and send it away by the hand of a ready man into the wilderness.

M (Hebrews 9:28) so also the Christ was offered once for all time to bear the sins of manyM and the second time that he appears it will be apart from sin and to those earnestly looking for him for [their] salvation.

Marginals

M (Isaiah 53:12) For that reason I shall deal him a portion among the many, and it will be with the mighty ones that he will apportion the spoil, due to the fact that he poured out his soul to the very death, and it was with the transgressors that he was counted in; and he himself carried the very sin of many people, and for the transgressors he proceeded to interpose.

M (1 Peter 2:24) He himself bore our sins in his own body upon the stake, in order that we might be done with sins and live to righteousness. And “by his stripes you were healed.”

Peter was here addressing Gentile members of the Israel of the promise of Exodus 19:3-8, as he did earlier in the same chapter in verses 9-10

9 But you are “a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation M, a people for special possession, that you should declare abroad the excellencies” of the one that called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. 10 For you were once not a people, but are now God’s people; you were those who had not been shown mercy, but are now those who have been shown mercy.. . .

Marginals Rbi8 1 Peter 2:9

M (Exodus 19:6) And you yourselves will become to me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.’ These are the words that you are to say to the sons of Israel.”

M (Isaiah 66:8) Who has heard of a thing like this? Who has seen things like these? Will a land be brought forth with labor pains in one day? Or will a nation be born at one time? For Zion has come into labor pains as well as given birth to her sons.

M (Revelation 5:10) and you made them to be a kingdom and priests to our God M, and they are to rule as kings over the earth.”

M (Revelation 20:6) Happy and holy is anyone having part in the first resurrection; over these the second death has no authority, but they will be priests M of God and of the Christ, and will rule as kings with him for the thousand years.

Marginals

M (Exodus 19:6) And you yourselves will become to me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.’ These are the words that you are to say to the sons of Israel.”

(Revelation 1:5-6) . . .To him that loves us and that loosed us from our sins by means of his own blood— 6 and he made us to be a kingdom M , priests to his God and Father—yes, to him be the glory and the might forever. Amen.

Marginals

M (Exodus 19:6) And you yourselves will become to me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation. M ’  These are the words that you are to say to the sons of Israel.”

Notice the continuing connection to the definitive promise of Exodus 19:6
–1 Peter 2:9; Rev 1:6, 5:10, 20:6:

And look at just two of the marginals from Exodus 19:6 at Holy Nation

M(Deuteronomy 7:6) For you are a holy people to Jehovah your God. It is you Jehovah your God has chosen to become his people, a special property, out of all the peoples that are on the surface of the ground.

M(Isaiah 61:6) And as for you, the priests of Jehovah you will be called M; the ministers of our God you will be said to be. The resources of the nations you people will eat, and in their glory you will speak elatedly about yourselves.

Marginals Rbi8 Isaiah 61:6

M (Exodus 19:6) And you yourselves will become to me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.’ These are the words that you are to say to the sons of Israel.”

M (1 Peter 2:9) But you are “a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for special possession, that you should declare abroad the excellencies” of the one that called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.

M (Revelation 20:6) Happy and holy is anyone having part in the first resurrection; over these the second death has no authority, but they will be priests of God and of the Christ, and will rule as kings with him for the thousand years.     [bold and italics mine]

Here again the incredible interconnecting woven-work between Exodus 19 & Revelation 20 via Isaiah 61 –coincidentally verse 6 in all three chapters.

What is even more incredible is that we (JWs)  not seem to have connected Isaiah 66:8 to the birth of the male child of Revelation 12.

In a way we (JWs) talk about three births:  1. Israel as a nation in Exodus;  2. Spiritual Israel as a new nation born at Pentecost 33 C. E. and  3. the birth of the Kingdom of the heavens in 1914. May I suggest that there is really only one birth?

Just look at the rhetorical questions posed in Isaiah 66:8:

Who has heard of a thing like this? Who has seen things like these? Will a land be brought forth with labour pains in one day? Or will a nation be born at one time? For Zion has come into labour pains as well as given birth to her sons.

From its birth through broken waters of the red sea, confirmed in Exodus 19:3-8, the nation of Israel went through a developmental gestation period of some 3 ½ millennia.

Though it may take many hundreds of years or more for a family to become a nation, many are formed in less time than Israel, but the tested quality of the future governmental Kingdom of the Heavens exclusively staffed by the Nation of the promise: Israel, had to be established for the monumental tasks ahead for them to carry out Jehovah's purpose for the earth.

Zion finally does give birth to her sons as the completed nation of Israel, when they are all born again as spirit sons of God, as was their leader and king Christ Jesus, and when they are seated on their assigned places in Heavenly Governance.

The Christ (not Jesus, because he had to remain dead for the thing saved to remain alive) became God's Son at his resurrection (like Isaac was resurrected from virtual death - Hebrews 11:17-19)
–Acts 13:33; Romans 1:4 (and context).

It is only when those of the Israel of God who have remained faithful unto death are born again at their resurrection, that they finally become literally sons of God by adoption in complete integration into Jehovah's family of the God kind.

Note also the lesson of the 7 husbands:

(Luke 20:35-36)  but those who have been counted worthy of gaining that system of things and the resurrection from the dead neither marry nor are given in marriage. 36 In fact, neither can they die anymore, for they are like the angels, and they are God’s children F by being children of the resurrection.

Footnote “Children.” Or, “sons.”

That they are not yet sons of God, although already baptized and anointed with Holy Spirit, the Apostle Paul also clearly evidences in Romans 8:23:

Not only that, but we ourselves also who have the firstfruits, namely, the spirit, yes, we ourselves groan within ourselves, while we are earnestly waiting for adoption as sons, the release from our bodies by ransom.

Not only was a release by ransom yet ahead for them and the Apostle when Paul penned this letter, but it was intimately tied to the Israel of God they were a part of, as the 11th chapter of Romans clearly testifies to.

*There ought to have been an xref from Romans 8:23 to Ephesians 1:13, 14:

But you also hoped in him after you heard the word of truth, the good news about your salvation. By means of him also, after you believed, you were sealed with the promised holy spirit, 14 which is a token in advance of our inheritance, for the purpose of releasing by a ransom [God’s] own possession, to his glorious praise.

*(There is a xref from Romans 8:24 to Ephesians 1:13, but just relative to the hope)

Even greater and more profound is Abraham's Sacrifice of Isaac in what it illustrates and teaches us about Jehovah's Love and His willingness to lose His very first creation, His only begotten God and Son: the archangel Michael.
