All about the Lord's Second Coming or Advent
Though I may have woven parts of this into other themes on this site, more detail may not be entirely unwelcome.
First off a definitive verse pertaining to both advents from Hebrews 9 because he had come for them both times*:
Hebrews 9:28 so Christ also, having been once offered to bear the sins of many, shall appear a second time, apart from sin, to them that wait for him, unto salvation.
* coming only for them? Yes:
Matthew 15:24 But he (Jesus) answered and said, I was not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
Verse 28 of Hebrews 9 concludes a dissertation about ransoming or redeeming, where Paul makes a fundamental point on the object of the ransoming in verse 15:
And for this cause he is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, they who are called may receive the promise of eternal inheritance. Webster 1833 -
Only Israel were under that first covenant/testament.
So the first time the Christ came was at his baptism and continued his presence to Calvary, where he both ransomed i.e. gave his life in exchange for God's firstborn Israel and was executed in place of God's adulterous wife Israel.
All the people Israel, the whole nation saw him one way or another. It was a literal presence.
As indeed Christianity teaches, the many are those accepting this redemption out
of the all the ransomed.
Alas, their all is humankind, whereas the Bible's all refers exclusively to Israel under Law out of which many of all sorts of Israelites rich, poor, male, female, slaves and masters constitutes the many actually benefiting:
Matthew 20:28 even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.
After being ransomed, all who had accepted the redemption of Israel were the many in line for individual personal redemption and becoming true sons of God and brothers of the heavenly Christ at their resurrection.
Paul commented on that in Romans 8:23: 23 And not only so, but ourselves also, who have the first–fruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for our adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body.
Individually they are even now continuing to wait as did John who fervently expressed his desire for Jesus to come quickly for his personal redemption and adoption as a son of God:
Revelation 22:20-21 He who testifies these things says, Yea: I come quickly. Amen: come, Lord Jesus*. 21 The grace of the Lord Jesus* be with the saints. Amen.
* There are three possible reasons the name of Jesus is used here and in other passages of the NT after he had died permanently:
1. primarily as a kindness from God to those for whom the Revelation and the Epistles were written, so as not to undermine their faith in what Jesus had promised and otherwise stated, which were to be fulfilled by the heavenly heir - God's only begotten heavenly son who had inherited all Jesus had accomplished including the anointing and attendant entitlements.
2. because it is only through the son of man Jesus and his obedient sacrifice that
all the promises of God have become Yes and Amen and that because of this, every
family on earth, and wherever else in the future, will bend their knees to him, as
it were, because they shall all owe their lives to him.
12 Corinthians 1:19-20; Philippians 2:9-11.
3. the Antichrists already busy during the Apostle's time carefully edited the NT to fit in with their ambitions of power and prestige while tired of waiting for their Messiah to return and replaced Christ with Jesus whenever necessary and/or convenient. That is perhaps also why important manuscripts older than the 4th century do not exist.
The point of all this is that the anointed (Christians)* making up the little flock
of Jehovah's sheep destined to be the Kingdom of Heaven, are still eagerly awaiting
their Lord's return to individually take them to where he already resides as the
only true son of God.
* No, not anointed Christians, because that would constitute a nonsensical tautologous phrase, since the words Christian means Anointed.
To fill in some of the blanks and to save me repeating it all here again, please look for an earlier essay I had placed on the Jesus Christ menu or just click here: Follow the Christ.
In Revelation 6 John paints the picture of the events during the time leading up to the collecting all of the little flock, 144000 kings and priests for their 1000-year turn of heavenly duty, from the dead to those still alive.
Please listen to chapter 6:9-11
9 And when he opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar, the souls of them that were killed for the word of God, and for the testimony which they had, 10 and they cried with a loud voice saying: How long tarriest thou Lord holy and true, to judge and to avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth? 11 And long white garments were given unto every one of them. And it was said unto them that they should rest for a little season until the number of their fellows, and brethren, and of them that should be killed as they were, were fulfilled.
They were given long white garments or robes they had already washed in the blood of the lamb during their obedient life course, even as those of the anointed still alive at the birth of the Kingdom of God needed to, in order to qualify for entry into the heavenly city and be that kingdom of the Heavens - Revelation 22:14:
Blessed are they that wash their robes, that they may have the right to come to the tree of life, and may enter in by the gates into the city. asv, The Douay + another 18 translations I have checked, while others, including the King James and its modern kindred read those who do his commandments, which is complete nonsense, since no commandments survived the demise of the Law of Moses at the death of the Christ.
But it does serve to give the Christian overlords the power over their congregations to dictate and punish for transgressing a law that no longer exists.
Because of the God-dishonouring Trinity, the lines between the LORD and Lord have been so fundamentally blurred as to the source and originator of his commandments. Christianity is all about commandments, control and punishment and endow with legitimacy the unauthorised control their leaders and false shepherds exercise over their flocks.
This is an Israel thing not situated in any denominational paddock, Christian or Otherwise.
Jehovah's Witnesses teach that Jesus had come invisibly in 1914 when, allegedly, the Kingdom of the Heavens was born. Not true.
That had to wait until their King's heavenly manifestation, as he collects and installs all the chosen ones, his friends and brothers, dead or alive into or rather as the Kingdom of the Heavens. Matthew 24:29-31; Revelation 1:7.
That is the second coming of the Christ when he only appears to those looking for him for their individual salvation and installation as kings and priests -Hebrews 9:28.
23 But each in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; then they that are Christ's, at his coming.
1 Corinthians 15:51-52:
51 Behold, I tell you a mystery: We all shall not sleep, but we shall all be changed, 52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we* shall be changed.
* those still alive and thus not sleeping in death at the time of their being gathered
and even verse 23 relative to the sequence of events that lead to the Christ handing the kingdom to His God and Father Jehovah:
23 But each in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; then they that are Christ’s, at his coming..
The ones destined for immortality in the Heavenly Kingdom are collected at the same time from those already dead and those still alive at the time of their being gathered to their heavenly kingdom duties, made clearer in:
1 Thessalonians 4:15-17
15 For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we that are alive, that are left unto the coming of the Lord, shall in no wise precede them that are fallen asleep. 16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven, with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first; 17 then we that are alive, that are left, shall together* with them be caught up in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
* in the NWT, the footnote correctly reads: at the same time, though they do no understand the hows and wherefores themselves as they have the anointed dead already resurrected to be with their Lord in 1919, whereas those alive in the interim are being gathered to their Lord as they die until the final ones are gathered after Armageddon, which is what they understand the Great Tribulation to be.
