The enigma of the first and last Adam .

The idea of another Adam surfaced in one of the inspired letters of the apostle Paul.

He used the term last Adam with reference to the Christ in 1 Corinthians 15:45 here from the New World Translation:

45 It is even so written: “The first man Adam became a living soul.” The last Adam became a life-giving spirit.. .  NWT

Whatever spin Christians may wish to put on the context and meaning of this verse, as in first man from earth and second man from heaven, the broad context of God's purpose as expressed in His word will have to be given priority.

Let's look at the first one:

Adam was conceived and designed in heaven by the Creator in His heavenly residence, where or whatever that is, and then manufactured here on earth from local materials previously created by God, which also sustained him until he died.

It was an asexual process.

Most books on human physiology clearly detail the actual chemical composition of the human species.  Natural reverse engineering at the inevitable terminal event when back to the dust we've gone, leaves no doubt about that reality.

This 2-Adams enigma is actually all about Jehovah's fleshly son Jesus who became the Christ at his baptismal appointment to be both King over Israel and High Priest, when Jehovah anointed him with His finger, the Holy Spirit*, which was both the anointing oil, as it were, and the token of future appointments.

* compare the two: Matthew 12:28; Luke 11:20.

He was not only the last Adam, but also a sheep, as strange as that may sound and is.

As we participate in life, the first things we learn about life itself and other first-learned matters leave a lasting legacy in our lives, whatever the mode of intellectal transport.

For almost my entire sojourn with the Jehovah's Witnesses I had accepted and believed many things that were then and still are true and in full sync with Scripture and reality.

There are some fundamentals however, most of which they hold in common with the entire realm of organised Christianity, that do not share such synonymy.

One of these I had also fully subscribed to was the doctrinal belief that the last Adam was God's only-begotten son Jesus, who, after dying for all mankind, became a spirit person at his resurrection and would provide all obedient humans with eternal life on the basis of this verse quoted above from the NWT, but this time from the American Standard Version of 1901, as it is rendered in almost all other translations:

45  So also it is written, The first man Adam became a living soul. The last Adam became a life–giving spirit.   (1 Corinthians 15:45)

Monotheists generally interpret that as: The heavenly spirit son of God Jesus came down from heaven, metamorphosed into flesh via Mary's womb and birth as God's fleshly son Jesus, dying here and re-morphed back into his former spirit state.

Trinitarians actually have God come down from heaven, dying here, as in the phrase God became man and died for us and then ascend back up again.

The plethora of translations rendering 1 Corinthians 15:45 as above, is the result of past trinitarian initiatives.

The second became in that verse has no manuscript presence in the Greek.  It is assumed to exist on the basis of Jesus' alleged ascent to heaven in an altered spirit state.

From over 40 translation I have access to, only Young's Literal Translation of 1862 avoids the second became, using only what the Greek manuscript provides:

so also it hath been written,

`The first man Adam became a living creature,`

the last Adam is for a life-giving spirit,

My goodness, that reflects the actual events according to God's purpose for the Israelite man Jesus to die for Israel, while at the same time substituting for the Only-Begotten heavenly spirit Son of God actually offered as per John 3:16.

The prepared body of the last Adam Jesus Christ died in place of or for the heavenly spirit son of Jehovah actually offered and destined to become a life-giving spirit  having life in himself to pass onto others, heretofore the sole prerogative of the Creator Himself  see -Hebrews 10:5-10 where world (Strong's 2889) in verse 5 is God's Government and decoration Israel not mankind (Strong's 3625).

Jesus was the last Adam in the unique way he was created paralleling the first Adam.

All Christians are aware that Jesus had no human father.

So who then provided the spark of life to fertilize Mary's ovum?

Mary provided half of the required DNA with God supplying an appropriate other half, likely from Joseph for family semblance.   Jesus' humanity, kind or species was obtained via Mary's descent from Adam.  Hence Jesus' son of man-ness.

The life of the second Adam, Jesus, came from heaven as did that of the first Adam.  The whole creation of forefather Adam from the original design to its implementation on earth and making him come to life with the enlivening life-force or spirit, proceded from a heavenly source in both instances.

Adam#1 was fashioned in the womb of the earth* Genesis 2:7: here from the Bible in basic English:

7  And the Lord God made man from the dust of the earth*, breathing into him the breath of life: and man became a living soul.

* earth is feminine in Hebrew, German, old English and other languages, hence womb.

* 0127  'adamah ad-aw-maw'

from 0119; n f;

Why does that matter?

Well, David uses an earth/womb anology relative to his mother's womb in Psalm 139:

13  For you formed my inward parts; you covered me in my mother’s womb.
14  I will praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are your works, And that my soul knows very well.  15 My frame was not hidden from you, When I was made in secret, And skillfully wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.  NKJV

That is precisely how the son of man Jesus came to be as he was skilfully woven in the lowest parts of the earth, as it were, of Mary's womb.

God used already created Earth materials to skilfully create Adam#1.

God used already created Earth materials and methods to skilfully create Adam#2 Jesus.

The greatest significance of the Adam parallel is that Jesus was a distinctly separate and new creation completely apart from the human race that descended from Adam, while inheriting the human genome from Adam through Mary's passive ovum, but not his life, which had not been passed down to him along the seminal chain of fathers from Adam by means of an active spermcell possessing life just long enough to pass it on to another.

Jesus was therefore neither a son of Adam nor a branch on his family tree.

Of even greater import was that both Adams were tempted by the Devil at the very beginning of their respective assignments:

Adam-1:

4 Then the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. 5 For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”  6 So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate.    -Genesis 3:4-6  NKJV.

The temptation locale of a peaceful garden, after 40 years of beneficial interaction with God could not have been more conducive to compliance . . . yet:

The first Adam/man-Adam did what the Devil desired!

Adam-2:

1 Then Jesus, being filled with the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness,  2 being tempted for forty days by the devil. And in those days He ate nothing, and afterward, when they had ended, He was hungry.

3 And the devil said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, command this stone to become bread.”  4 But Jesus answered him, saying, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.’ ”

5 Then the devil, taking Him up on a high mountain, showed Him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time.  6 And the devil said to Him, “All this authority I will give You, and their glory; for this has been delivered to me, and I give it to whomever I wish.  7 “Therefore, if You will worship before me, all will be Yours.”  8 And Jesus answered and said to him, “Get behind Me, Satan! For it is written, ‘You shall worship the LORD your God, and Him only you shall serve.’ ”

9 Then he brought Him to Jerusalem, set Him on the pinnacle of the temple, and said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down from here.  10 “For it is written: ‘He shall give His angels charge over you, To keep you,’  11 “and, ‘In their hands they shall bear you up, Lest you dash your foot against a stone.’ ”  12 And Jesus answered and said to him, “It has been said, ‘You shall not tempt the LORD your God.’ ”  Luke 3:1-12  NKJV.

The temptation locale of 40 days (day for year) in a stressful wilderness as their Messiah's life paralleled that of Israel, could not have been more conducive to non-compliance . . . yet:

The last Adam/man-Jesus did not what the Devil desired!

Jesus thus qualified for the required perfect sinless sacrificial body to bring salvation to Israel to allow them to continue to run with all of Jehovah's promises to Abraham and the fathers to bless all the families of the earth as originally purposed by Him.

It is by virtually listening in on a brief exchange His only begotten son is having with himself and his father, that Jehovah explains how He had arranged for Israel to be saved by preparing a body to die in place of the His only begotten son actually offered for His firstborn son Isreal*:

3  But in those sacrifices there is a reminder of sins every year.  4  For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and goats could take away sins.  5  Therefore, when He* came into the world*, He said: "Sacrifice and offering you did not desire, But a body you have prepared for Me.  6  In burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin you had no pleasure.

7  Then I said, ‘Behold, I have come––In the volume of the book it is written of Me––To do your will, O God.’"  8  Previously saying, "Sacrifice and offering, burnt offerings, and offerings for sin you did not desire, nor had pleasure in them" (which are offered according to the law),  9  then He said, "Behold, I have come to do your will, O God." He takes away the first that He may establish the second.  10  By that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.  –Hebrews 10:3-10  NKJV

            * With world (Strong's 2889) in verse 5 above denoting God's Government and Decoration Israel
             not mankind (Strong's 3625).

* Exodus 4:22; John 3:16.

The parallel between the two Adams runs from unique creation to becoming sinners* and forever dead.   The man Jesus was solely created to die a sacrifice.

* becoming sin for us (2 Corinthians 5:21), with the us indicating the anointed little flock to be given the Kingdom (Luke 12:32), constituting the many out of forgiven Israel for whom he had died:

(Matthew 20:26-28)  even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life* a ransom for many.  ASV

(Hebrews 9:28)  so Christ* also, having been once offered to bear the sins of many, shall appear a second time, apart from sin, to them that wait for him, unto salvation.  ASV

All THE ABOVE NEEDS TO BE CLEARLY AND PREREQUISITELY UNDERSTOOD!

The Bible will NEVER make sense without it EVER!

I sincerely hope, that someone can actually understand this (wants to?).

Jesus was a distinctly new and separate creation, who had not descended from Adam, while inheriting the human genome through Mary, but not his life along the seminal chain of fathers from Adam.
